Keep Christ in Christmas

Our Promise- Wooden Christmas Decorations:

My student teacher Mrs. Kathryn Stewart and I developed this lesson cooperatively.  She gathered the material and taught the lesson.   One of the most important aspects of Advent is that we prepare for the coming of Christ.  As well as preparing our homes, we have to prepare ourselves.  We discussed making promises to help us to become better people.  We made an extensive list of what we could promise.  Their thoughts were from the heart.  The children chose a wooden ornament, printed their promise on the back.  Then using thin felt pens we colored the front of the ornament and traced the words on the back.  We put them up on a Christmas tree in a small celebration.  One at a time the children said what their promise was and put it on the tree.  It was a very touching ceremony that touched the hearts of the children.  It became our 'Promise Tree'.

Mary Says Yes, So Can We

My student teacher Mrs. Kathryn Stewart and I developed this lesson cooperatively. After reading the story of the Angel Gabriel coming to Mary we discussed Mary saying yes to God. How can we say "Yes" to God?  The children were given the word "yes" cut out on black paper and the children wrote with gel pens.  They were laminated and taped to their desk to remind them  how they could say "Yes".
