Christmas Gingerbread Houses: The grades ones at St. Monica School made gingerbread houses. We covered a small milk container with tin foil and taped it to a Christmas paper plate. Students then covered their whole house with white icing. Each child was given “6” graham wafers. Four graham wafers were used for the base of the house and two were used for the roof. Students then covered their whole house with white icing. A parent piped a green or red trim to frame the house. Students brought in a variety of foiled candy to decorate their gingerbread houses. Items needed: 1) Christmas paper plate 2) foiled milk container 3) six graham wafers 4) half-tub of white icing 5) one plastic knife

variety of foiled Christmas candy Recipe for Buttercream Icing: We used red and green paste to colour the icing for the trim. We piped the trim with a decorating bag. 1 cup butter half tsp. salt 1 cup shortening 8 cups of icing sugar 2 tsp. of vanilla 6 tblsp. milk Beat at high speed till light and fluffy. This recipe makes six cups of icing to trim gingerbread houses. Gingerbread House: I print the directions on the board so parents and students can read and follow along together. 1) Cover the whole house with white icing. 2) Place the four graham wafers around the side of the house. Add the final two wafers for the roof. 3) Cover the whole house with icing. 4) Use a foiled candy for a chimney on the roof. Make a pattern with M&Ms for the roof. 5) A parent will pipe a green or red trim on the gingerbread house. 6) Decorate your gingerbread house with your candy. 7) ENJOY!
