Christmas Charity Food and Gift Hampers: St. Monica’s School made ten food and gift hampers for families in need within our community. Each classroom teacher was provided with a profile sheet on one of the families. The profile was used to build an appropriate food and gift hamper for their family. Patents volunteered to purchase a gift for a child or parent. The gifts were valued from $20 to $25. Gift suggestions were a “health bag” of goodies for personal use (bath salts, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc.) Also suggested were donations of corporate freebies, movie passes, recreational passes, books, restaurant vouchers. We were fortunate to have Canada Safeway provide a ham and a box of oranges for each hamper. Students brought in a variety of food for the hampers. A list was posted outside each classroom and was also in the school newsletter.
Hamper Food Items:
Gifts were wrapped and labeled with the gender and age of the child. We purchased large baskets for the food items and wrapped them up in Christmas cellophane with a large golden bow. All food and gift hampers were clearly labeled. The hampers were delivered on December 19th by Santa Claus. The staff and families of St. Monica School were thrilled to be making another family’s Christmas a little brighter.
Hat, Mittens and Scarves: We collected new or gently used hats, mittens and scarves to add to our Christmas hampers. Students placed these items on our hat and mitten Christmas tree in the library. |
